Kindness

Write about a random act of kindness you’ve done for someone.

I had received a gift card for Subway from a a Christmas party at work one year. After using part of it, I sat down at one of the tables to eat. There was an elderly homeless man in the booth in front of me. He asked the lady behind the counter if he could have more mayonnaise. She told him no. Just flat out no. He went back to his booth and finished his sandwich, then he rose to leave. Before he walked out the door with all of his things, I gave him my gift card. There was enough remaining on it for a full foot long meal.

I don’t understand why they couldn’t have given him more mayonnaise. It costs nothing.

  1. I am proud of you for giving him what you did. You never know what a person has been through to be where they are when you see them. Your compassion was real, and I am glad I read about this. When we are so busy, we stop because we know the person may just be really down, and out. We all need to read about times when a stranger was asking for help. I do think we never know who it might just be. My car stalled, and someone came by to fix it temporarily so I could get home. That was compassion, and I didn’t have any money to give for the good deed. I won’t forget those who are compassionate at the right time. Smile.
