When….. by L. M. Montes

When I am among beauty,
I am among my Maker.
For He is beauty,
and a passion partaker.

When I am lonely,
I know he is there.
For He tells me so
in the trees so fair.

When I get gifts of love,
I know He giveth to me.
The touch of His hand
is His guidance so free.

When all of life comes down,
I look to the heavens high,
to see wind’s wistful breezes
with his breath’s uplifting sigh.

When I look upon you,
I see the truest love.
For this, the ultimate gift
is what he giveth from above.

Repentance: A Sonnet by L. M. Montes

In valleys green so deep and vast bestow,
petals bright with candied flowers growing,
steepled churches point to eagles soaring,
praying God’s children back to him return.
The road below twists its turning clutches,
steering ’round in circles thus repeating.
Along cliffside mountains choices teeter,
souls play chicken, thus forever tempting,
playing with life’s air currents with no thought.
Thorns and thistles stretch their needles skyward,
expecting wayward children so to catch,
and peace that stands forever elusive.
But then amazing grace for them is sent,
when wayward children pray and then repent.

A Heart Deployed by L. M. Montes

Fear’s vice grip latched and firmly held,
as I watched you leave on wings of flight,
a tear upon my cheeks it felled,
as there I stood, seeing you off to fight.

All progress and forward motion from me,
stilled that day, unmoving and sticky,
but if you are to come home and be,
I must move on but, alas, is tricky.

Days faded and blew away like a stranger,
never getting too close but turning away,
wondering if you were in any danger,
and praying you’d show at the door today.

Then one day as I stood cooking,
a whisper swept across my ear,
I’m here, my love, war never shook me,
now I am home and my love is near.

A Love by L. M. Montes

Intricate beauty captures,
hearts and souls,
alas, your arms surrounding.

Traces fixed as outlines fade,
sun shifts, beams,
I am revealed as always.

Redness, goodness, passion set,
tucked within,
your soul captures, scintillates.

Through your heart life captures me,
awakens,
paint-strokes of love spark and glow.

Beauty weaves its perfect love,
hearts and souls,
your arms surround me, alas.

To You I Give by L. M. Montes

I give to you all that I have in life,
may goodness ever be your brightness of light,
an answer to the questions you ask,
will never display as a veil or a mask,
when you peer inside my soul,
transparent and lucid will I behold,
your eyes have given to me love that wills,
a love so stabbing, my body it fills,
with arms around me and keeping me snug,
off my shoulders all harm I will shrug.

Closed by L. M. Montes

Like a needle with a thread
I moved to access your wakeful head,
Such knowledge have you at heart
but would not give me or impart,
perhaps attempts were great in number
causing you to go and slumber,
or maybe thus I have no key
to open you and give to me,
please think me not too selfish
just that you I want to cherish,
my hand on yours I transferred
then you said I was absurd,
I yanked my hand away
to try again some other day.

Turning Tides by L. M. Montes

The gull took flight and pushed against wind,
then cocked its head, stared at me, and winked,
the absent minded upturn of the corners of my lips
spread wide across my cheeks, nodding as I did.
Its wings wafted as it hovered this way and that,
then dipped and swooped, clasping to its catch.

I moved my sight to play along the sinking horizon,
as a ship sat buoyant moving as a turtle not to liven,
yet reached its seismic body to impress upon my mind,
its depth and height, commanding a presence that aligned
an inner respect within my soul as my breath inhaled,
and gasped as nature stood and then impaled.

The Joy of You by L. M. Montes

Thanks, I will be going now to breathe fresh air in June,
but not before I’ve spent the night a gazing at the moon,
needles of pine, spring scented rushing winds of fragrance,
and pushes me from side to side and sailing in a free dance,
filled with beauteous splendor, I cross my arms up close,
pinning to my mind the joy from you that flows,

Life’s Pool by L. M. Montes

Floating eyes moved side to side,
gazing in world filled wonder,
but when a hand prayed to abide,
the heart ran off to yonder.

Needles pointed inward,
stabbed the brain toward death,
the heart continued wayward,
and stole the lungs of breath.

Waves of goodness swept and swayed,
life’s ups and downs they fought,
then One above heard all I prayed,
in snares I wasn’t caught.

Peace by L. M. Montes

Stillness rages through the blood,
it doesn’t pump but floats along,
idly waving angst goodbye,
and resting hearts in calmness.

Nothing wages in my mind,
no lightning struck its worry down
to caste problems’ electric current
through the veins of life’s dark night,
only peace has struck its might.

So here in canyons looking down,
I hear an echo of yesterday’s taunts,
now, melted, broken ice,
warmth slid its soft feathers ’round me,
soothing lofty love of life’s kind gestures
upon the tranquil pillow of my soul.
